Pynwheel Self Tour allows users to tour rental properties solo, without requiring a leasing agent. The app provides an interactive map with turn-by-turn directions and displays key details about the apartment community at each stop. Renters can take notes, add personal photos, and review their tour at any time.

For security, users verify their identity by uploading a driver’s license, passport, or national ID, along with a selfie scan. This ID verification process ensures that only authorized visitors can access the property. Once verified, users can search for available properties, follow step-by-step tour guidance, and explore apartments effortlessly.

Upon completion, renters can share their tour experience with friends and return to the app anytime to review their saved tours and notes. The app helps leasing offices convert self-guided tours into signed leases by making apartment hunting more accessible and interactive.

• THE STORY

  I worked on Pynwheel Self Tour independently, focusing on user-friendly navigation and secure verification processes. One of the major challenges was implementing multi-step identity verification, which required handling various document uploads, including driver’s licenses, passports, and national IDs. Additionally, I developed an automated selfie scanning system to validate user identity and enhance security.
  
  Another key challenge was optimizing real-time navigation within the app. Each property has a unique tour path, requiring dynamic map updates. Integrating photo-based navigation was also critical to ensuring a smooth and immersive experience. The project aimed to increase rental conversions by offering a convenient self-touring solution while maintaining strict security protocols.
